TALES OF THE ARABIAN NIGHTS
---------------------------

Converted by Urusergi and iXien

VERSION IN MODE 1 (V1)
----------------------

With graphics using mode 1 in 320x200, 4 colours. You can see an attract mode and the music can be eared while playing. A 'quit game' option is also available.

Controls:
J1LEFT/RIGHT = Move left or right
J1B1 = Jump
J1B2 = Pause game (J1B1 = Resume, J1UP = Music off, J1DOWN = Music on)

Modifications for the GX4000 version:
    - Wait for fire to skip title screen,
    - Patched keys,
    - Fixed bugs,
    - Poke: Unlimited lives.

Details from Urusergi about the bugs fixed: When music is ON the timers was deactivated. Level titles and 'game over' disappeared quickly ('game over' music played too late). When music is OFF the timers are new activated but even so, it took little time to disappear. So I've created a new 24-bit delay routines and I've adjusted the 'game over' music playback.

VERSION IN MODE 0 (V2)
----------------------

With gaphics using mode 0 in 160x200, 16 colours. There is no attract mode, the music can't be eared while playing and there is no 'quit game' feature. But it offers a high score table. In addition, while we were converting the game on GX4000 in 2023, we added the C64 title screen to complete this version.

Controls:
J1LEFT/RIGHT = Move left or right
J1B1 = Jump
J1B2 = Pause game (any key to resume)

Modifications for the GX4000 version:
    - Needed to unprotect the original tape,
    - New title screen converted from the C64 version by iXien
    - Wait for fire to skip title screen,
    - Patched keys,
    - Patched highscore table ('MR NOBODY' input by default, J1B1 to skip it)
    - Poke: Unlimited lives.

ABOUT THE TWO VERSIONS
----------------------
AMSTRAD ACTION #4
Version 1 vs. version 2
"The version of the program which we've reviewed is in fact the second one for the Amstrad that has appeared. The first one showed up at the PCW show and according to Interceptor 2-3,000 copies were probably sold before they decided to stop distributing it.
The decision was made because the company weren't 100% happy with the game and wanted to wait for this second version which was being programmed by a different person. Version one had less features on it and was a lot easier but was graphically more impressive except for some dodgy scrolling for the river and desert stages.
The games will now be sold back to back on the same tape so that you can sample them both. Those of you feeling aggrieved at having bought the first version fear not - for a fee of 50 pence to cover postage and packing Interceptor will replace the first version with the tape containing both games.
For the record, version one would get slightly lower ratings than version two."

So the version 2 in mode 0 is the defnitive one. What is very interesting is to think that the best known version is the first one in mode 1. We can imagine that the game has been cracked just after it's release (maybe even before), so that's the version that has been illegally scattered. As a result, the version 2 was only known from people that bought the game some weeks after the first release.
